Eyelids (blepharoplasty)

WHAT IT IS

Blepharoplasty is a type of cosmetic surgery performed to reduce sagging or puffy skin and improve the appearance of the eyelids. This procedure involves removing excess skin and fat from the upper or lower eyelids to reduce lax skin and create a more youthful and rested appearance.

During an upper blepharoplasty, the surgeon may remove sagging skin from the upper eyelid, repair the muscle responsible for opening the eyes, and eliminate excess fat.

A lower blepharoplasty is designed to address issues such as under-eye bags by repositioning and potentially removing lax skin and fat. Additionally, it can address sagging lower lids that may reveal excessive white space below the iris.

Eyelids (Blepharoplasty)

HOW IT WORKS

Blepharoplasty, or eyelid surgery, is a specialized procedure that involves making carefully planned incisions in the natural creases of the upper eyelids and just beneath the lashes or behind the lower eyelids for lower eyelid surgery. Dr. Wenzel then meticulously removes or repositions excess fat, muscle, and skin, reducing puffiness and sagging and effectively addressing under-eye bags.

Blepharoplasty is typically performed using local anesthesia or sedation. The recovery time is usually seven to ten days for an upper blepharoplasty and ten to fourteen days for a lower blepharoplasty. Patients may experience bruising, swelling, and discomfort around the eyes during this time. The results of blepharoplasty are typically long-lasting.

Browlift

WHAT IT IS

A browlift, also known as a forehead lift or rejuvenation, is a cosmetic surgical procedure performed to raise and reshape the eyebrows and forehead area. The procedure can help reduce the appearance of wrinkles and creases in the forehead and improve the eyebrows’ position and shape.

HOW IT WORKS

During a browlift, the surgeon will make incisions in the scalp and lift the skin and tissue in the forehead area to reposition the eyebrows and smooth out any wrinkles or creases. Dr. Wenzel employs several different techniques for a browlift, including traditional, endoscopic, and temporal approaches.

The procedure shown above is a transfollicular subcutaneous browlift before surgery and five weeks post-operatively. No blepharoplasty was performed in this instance.

Wenzel performs a “mini browlift” or transfollicular incision browlift on most patients. However, in some patients, an endoscopic approach can be used. He prefers the transfollicular approach performed 5 mm behind the hairline, as it’s the only option that doesn’t raise the hairline, there is less chance of nerve injury, and it is a long-lasting procedure because of excess skin removal (2 cm on average). Each approach camouflages the scar by hair growth back through the incision.

A browlift is typically performed under general anesthesia. Recovery time can vary depending on the individual and the extent of the procedure but generally involves some swelling, bruising, and discomfort in the treated area for several days to a week. Most patients experience full recovery within one to two weeks. The results of a browlift can be long-lasting and provide a more youthful and refreshed appearance to the upper face.

AccuTite

WHAT IT IS

AccuTite is a groundbreaking facial treatment that uses Radiofrequency (RF) energy to rejuvenate the skin and restore youthful contours. This state-of-the-art technology rejuvenates and refines the skin, yielding a youthful and natural-looking result in targeted areas of the face, such as the brows, periorbital region, nasolabial folds, lower face, and neck.

The procedure requires only tiny incisions, which heal quickly and leave virtually no visible scars. AccuTite offers a powerful, minimally invasive option for those seeking to address the early signs of aging and achieve a more youthful, rejuvenated appearance.

HOW IT WORKS

The AccuTite procedure begins with the administration of local anesthesia for patient comfort. Dr. Wenzel then makes a small incision in the treatment area, through which he can insert a thin cannula connected to the AccuTite device. The cannula delivers focused radiofrequency energy to the deeper layers of the skin and subcutaneous tissue. This energy heats the tissues, causing the contraction of collagen and elastin fibers, leading to immediate skin tightening.

Additionally, the heat generated by the AccuTite device can liquefy small fat deposits, which are then gently aspirated through a needle—this combined effect of skin tightening and fat reduction results in a more contoured and youthful appearance. The procedure is carried out with utmost precision and care, leaving minimal scarring and providing a faster recovery time compared to traditional surgical methods.

Frequently Asked Questions

Eyelid Surgery (blepharoplasty): The results of lower eyelid surgery (lower blepharoplasty) can last a lifetime. The results of upper eyelid surgery (upper blepharoplasty) typically last for five to seven years.

As with any surgical procedure, upper face cosmetic surgery carries some risks, including infection, bleeding, unfavorable scarring, and changes in sensation. However, Dr. Wenzel and our team prioritize patient safety and use state-of-the-art techniques and technology to minimize these risks.

The recovery period can vary depending on the specific procedure and the patient’s healing process. Generally, most patients can return to normal activities within one to two weeks following surgery. Swelling and bruising typically subside within the first week, while complete healing may take several weeks. Our team provides each patient with comprehensive post-operative care instructions and support to ensure a smooth recovery.

Dr. Wenzel is highly skilled in placing incisions in discreet locations to minimize visible scarring. For instance, incisions for blepharoplasty are usually made in the natural creases of the eyelids, while those for a browlift may be hidden within the hairline. Over time, these scars typically fade and become less noticeable.
